Holyhead's work is marked by expanses of white ground left uncovered and the traces of colour at the canvas-edge where paint has been carefully removed from the surface. Some canvases are almost entirely covered with semi-translucent paint, while others are sporadically punctuated by sharply defined and intensely coloured geometric shapes.
