Bridget Riley at Art Institute of Chicago

From 11 November 2014 to 8 March 2015, Art Institute of Chicago presents a display of four works by Bridget Riley.

This exhibition marks Riley’s first solo presentation at an American museum in nearly 15 years. It features the Art Institute’s own Ascending and Descending Hero (1963/65), an important early black-and-white painting, alongside Continuum (1963/2005), the artist’s only sculptural work. Never before shown in the US, this immersive painted interior is closely visually linked to Ascending and Descending Hero.

Highlighting the artist’s development, the display also includes two of her 'stripe' paintings, the early black-and-white Horizontal Vibration (1961) and the recent colour diptych Red Modulation (Yellow and Orange) (2014–13).
