Writer Patrick Langley explores Paul Barlow’s new paintings for his first solo show with Karsten Schubert London.

Excerpt:
When I first saw the paintings on a trip to the artist’s riverside studio earlier this year, they struck me as both immediate and elusive, graphic in their clarity and cryptic in their meaning. One resembled a Tesla coil seething with static charge. Another, a graceful stingray gliding through the depths. The associations emerged and evolved as I spent time with each painting. Stamens became circuit components, mitochondria mutated into mushroom clouds.
