Sculpting Lives podcast dedicates an episode to Alison Wilding on 23 November. Jo Baring, Director of the Ingram Collection of Modern British & Contemporary Art and Sarah Turner, Deputy Director at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London, interview the artist along with Madeleine Bessborough and art historian Jo Applin. The series explores female representation in public spaces, sculpture and display, with each episode featuring the significance of women artists themselves – their studios, galleries and work.
Jo Applin reflects on Alison's work:
“...she [Alison Wilding] plays with the idea of what you think you’re looking at and the limits of what we can know about an object that unfold as you navigate - so the object and subject end up in quite a complicated dance with each other that keeps changing, and that’s why it’s so hard to pin down.”
“...it throws you off, immediately you’re disoriented and not quite sure what it is you’re looking at and what you’re being asked to do with this sculptural encounter. It strikes me every single time I encounter a work by Alison, what are we to do with this, how should I navigate it, how am I going to describe it and what is it trying to do?"
