Karsten Schubert London is pleased to announce that Tess Jaray’s painting St Stephen’s Green (1964) has been acquired by the Centre Pompidou. This is the second work by Jaray the Pompidou have added to their collection this year, following their purchase of Palace Red (1962).
In St Stephen’s Green Jaray references the roof tiles of St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, the city of her birth. This large-scale painting demonstrates her singular investigations into form, colour and the visual experience of architectural space. The addition of her work to such a significant European collection attests to Tess Jaray’s position as one of the most influential abstract painters working today.
