Tess Jaray's Palace Red Acquired by the Centre Pompidou

We are delighted to announce that the Centre Pompidou has acquired Tess Jaray's 1962 painting Palace Red. This sale follows Karsten Schubert London's solo exhibition of Jaray's early work at Frieze Masters 2018.

Tess Jaray executed the groundbreaking Palace Red upon returning to England from a travel grant trip to Italy, after her studies at the Slade. In Italy she immersed herself in Renaissance masterpieces of painted perspective and architecture. Returning to her London studio, she began to develop new methods of investigating linear perspective and expressing the viewer's experience of architectural space.

Monumental in scale, Palace Red demonstrates Jaray's singular vision and influence on abstract painting over her decades-long career.
