Michael Landy

Introduction

Curriculum Vitae

Michael Landy is a leading artist of the Brit Art generation.  Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s Landy has explored different aspects of contemporary consumerism. In 2001 he performed his most ambitious project to date with Break Down; taking over the ground floor of the recently vacated, flagship C&A store in Oxford Street, Landy sytematically destroyed everything he owned having meticulously detailed it in a full inventory of over 5000 possesions.

More recently Michael has made a series of delicate etchings of the hardy and beautiful plants that grow wild in the harshest inner-city environments.  He is currently completing a video work commissioned by Tate Britain to go on view in the Duveen Galleries in May 2004.  Ridinghouse will be publishing a new video work by Landy to coincide with the exhibition.
